In regards to Henriksson, he has to make NHL or go back to SHL, he's not AHL eligible.
I still don't think I want to see Robertson or Schneider in the NHL at all this year. No need to rush their development, and if possible burn years off the control the team will have for them. In order for us to navigate this flat cap we'll need to be patient with players like MLB clubs are with service time rules, etc. |

Im still punching the ticket on Robertson / Schneider potentially being one of the best defenseive pairs in the NHL if given the chance to build and grow together. |

I’m all for it but who goes to make room for Schneider on the right side? Lundkvist is the only one, and I’m excited to see what he can do |

just for the fact that Lundkvist is older and played a lot more last year than Schneider did due to circumstances, I think Nils starts here
I think Schneider will start in AHL, but, it could be short lived

NHL is pretty wild how it works. You basically get 3-4 days of training camp before the preseason starts. NFL has like 5 months of buildup and MLB gets a few weeks before they start playing pre season games. Not a lot of time for a new coach to get his system into the team lol |

Hockey players don't have to memorize and entire "playbook" and it's much more fluid game. A .month is all they need |

I know a lot of people are excited for Nils, however we already have Fox. IMO you only really need one guy like that. (Undersized, more offensive than defensive). For all the offensive accolades Nils comes with from Sweden, Schneider is no slouch when it comes to producing.
Im all for maximizing on ELCs as we really need it right now, however if Nils is that good offensively, we cant have two 10m defensemen on the ice.
The one thing that makes me love Schneider is he looks like a guy that leads by example. He looks like a guy who will be an A or C at a pro level since hes been a captain of every team hes been on. |

If he can be a better scoring version of Anton Stralman, he isnt worth playing? We seemed to do just fine with 5'11" Stralman in the lineup.

because of Covid, Schneider only played 30 games total last year (between WHL, AHL and WJC)
ultimately, he just needs to play a lot of hockey this season, and he'll just get more minutes in AHL

I am talking training camp though. 3 days is enough to meet new coaches and get some practices/systems in place before playing a game. Still wild to me |

I was under the impression this was more of an agreement the Rangers had with his Swedish team where he would still play for them if he didnt play for the Rangers but I could be wrong

You can't have more than one defenseman in the line up under 6 feet. It's been scientifically proven. |

That's not true, unless the Rangers and Frolunda had some sort of agreement stating that like Jimbo said.
Islanders drafted Simon Holmstrom out of Sweden and he went directly to Bridgeport.
Only CHL players have to either make the NHL club or go back to their junior team. NCAA and Euro players are AHL-eligible right off the bat. |

I was just going off of Jan's last blog that mentioned he was not AHL eligible. I did some further digging and found the excerpt from the eligibility rules. Since he’s under contract with Frolunda, not a first round pick, and not yet 22, he can’t be assigned to the AHL.
